We have searched around for what we believe to be the best technician to make all the different restorations that come from a laboratory. It is our policy to order this work from those best able to do the job, and this means taking the trouble to send different work to different technicians with their special skills. Mr L S Browne whose laboratory offers us restorations for implants, also does much of our normal crown and bridgework, and patients who have benefited from his work generally agree that it is the best they could have hoped for. Larry Browne himself travels the world lecturing technicians and dentists on advanced restorative work and has recently given a talk to local dentists on what really can be done with implants. Although his work is not cheap, we believe it is well worth the money – and your teeth are worth treating well. Although, he is in London, our intra oral camera technology enables us to send him pictures of your teeth if colours are difficult so he can work for you personally and match tooth colours precisely. The camera has enabled us to pick our crown technicians from anywhere in the world we choose. We are very likely to offer dentures from PW Dental Laboratory in Canterbury, which offers not only first rate work but the comfort of having the technician close by, and the avoidance of using the post for what involves several stages. Only their senior denture technician, makes dentures fitted by Mr Green. We have the distinction of making, by special arrangement, the first crown in Britain to be fitted the same day the work was started. We expect a lot from our technicians, and would like to offer them all our warmest thanks for their part in the practice. Implants Replacing lost teeth with artificial ones that are like your own certainly sounds too good to be true, but this is indeed reality in our practice. For those who are interested what is the 'catch'? Firstly, we admit that not every patient is a good case for this treatment; it largely depends on whether your jaw bones are the right shape to accommodate new teeth being implanted, and whether you are capable of maintaining them according to our advice. Secondly, to ensure the likelihood of success, several planning visits may be necessary, including C-T scan to image your bone structure. Thirdly, implants have to rest undisturbed in the jaw for 3-6 months before we can fix visible teeth to these for you to use, and these have to be changed from soft to permanent after a further 3-6 months for the union between your implants and bone to mature. And lastly, if these are to be done, they should be done well and this time and expertise does not come cheap; costs start at around £1400 for a single tooth replacement. Is the final result worth it? The answer is an unreserved yes. This treatment has changed peoples lives, and has given us some of our greatest sense of achievement. How do I go about it if I am interested? Ask at reception for the implants brochure and ask your dentist whether he/she thinks we could give you what you want. Implants are provided by a specially skilled team of clinicians of which Mr Green is one of the 3 dentists. The team consists of these plus 3 Consultant Oral Surgeons (Messrs J Storrs, N Bradley, and C Hendy), a technical adviser (Mr L S Browne) and a representative from Institut Strauman in Switzerland who research and manufacture the implants. Patients are seen by the team at the superb new maxillo-facial unit at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital and we seriously believe the combined expertise of surgeon, dentist and technician at the planning stage gives patients the unique advantage of both the best skills in each field and the avoidance of later problems or conflicts. For example, if the available bone gives us two options for implant placement, the dentist and technician can tell the surgeon where they want the implant put so the patient gets the best result. The team treats patients referred in from a wide area as well as the dentists own patients. We are very pleased to offer patients the comfort of returning to Mr Green for the final, co-ordinated restoration of their implants and continuing care within the practice. |
