A History of The Castle Street Dental Practice

Our practice was opened on 1st May 1995 and is the newest in Canterbury. From the outset it was intended to deliver what patients would want in the 21st Century, but with the ambience of traditional professional values. Mr Green has been treating some of our patients since January 1986 when he joined the practice in Broad Street.

The building dates from 1552 with the front facade being added in the 18th century, although the site is understood to have been occupied since Roman times. Before us, it has been used as a shop and then the Georgian Guest House, run by Mary and Michael Kennett. Substantial renovation and sympathetic conversion was carried out in early 1995 to consolidate the future of one of Canterbury's fine old buildings and provide what is for patients a haven of some elegance amidst central Canterbury. It was chosen due to its prominence, proximity to car parks, good ground floor accommodation and ambience and time has proven the worth of the location.

Many patients and five of the personnel started the practice in 1995 and Mrs. Elizabeth Appleyard joined later that year; although her hours had to be limited, she was a priceless asset. In 1996 we took on new staff and hygienists to push for excellence in preventative care as the clientele has expanded. The practice is always looking to make further improvements.
